This is always done as a last resort. The good news is that it has an 85% success rate. Most often conventional re-treatment will solve the problem but if not, surgery is indicated. Most cases are done under local anaesthesia in our offices but sometimes general anaesthesia will be considered. A major consideration in most cases is the presence of expensive restorations such as a bridge on the tooth. Another consideration is the viability of alternative treatments such as implants. In some cases implants are out of the question and apicectomy surgery is the only option.
